Ariel Phillips MHC-LP (she, her, hers) Psychotherapist
Ariel is a mental health counselor who fosters a nonjudgmental, collaborative therapeutic space where clients can explore all aspects of their experience. She has a particular focus on working with parents and prospective parents as they navigate the many stages of the reproductive journey. From planning a family to pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond, Ariel supports clients through the unexpected challenges and mixed emotions these seasons of life often bring.
Ariel tailors therapy to each client’s specific needs, drawing primarily from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and relational psychodynamic therapy. Also taking inspiration from mindfulness practices and Buddhist psychology, Ariel approaches therapy with the understanding that while pain and hardship are universal human experiences, we have the power to change the way we relate to our pain. Overall, Ariel helps clients cultivate greater self-compassion and move toward what truly matters to them.
In her previous career in the nonprofit sector, Ariel blended leadership skills and a passion for the arts to support the careers of New York City artists and creatives. She has experience as peer mentor to fellow parents and is an avid distance runner. Ariel received her MA in mental health counseling from NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.
